Since the start of the pandemic much has been written about the accelerating decline of bricks and mortar retail. The question as to what to do with all this redundant retail space has, more often than not, been answered with "convert it to residential". After all, the UK has a chronic housing supply shortage so surely this makes sense. However, that is not the only answer. Converting large department stores into mixed use leisure and work facilities might be one exciting alternative answer!
