Winners of the 2022 Young London Print Prize announced

On 3 November, Young London Print Prize ('YLPP') announced their 2022 winners, having asked this year's entries to express their responses to the climate crisis.

Just days before world leaders gather for the COP27 conference in Egypt, the annual print prize culminated in a showcase of the winning entries on the Piccadilly lights. The winner was announced as Sara Ahmed, a Year 6 pupil from Mayflower Primary School in Tower Hamlets. Sara's entry depicted a single plastic bottle floating in the ocean and was made using a technique called relief printing.

Second prize was won by Deimantas Pocuis from Discovery Primary School in Thamesmead, who submitted a striking print of a hawksbill turtle. Third prize went to Prithvi Anish, a pupil at Foxfield Primary School in Woolwich, who created an abstract print entitled ‘The Sinking Ship’.

The Young London Print Prize launched during the Covid-19 pandemic and seeks to inspire and showcase the work of young artists. Judged by young A-level art students, this year, 1311 students from 23 schools across the capital participated.

Boodle Hatfield is proud to have partnered with the Young London Print Prize for 2022 and would like to congratulate this year's very deserving winners. Their winning works were on display at Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair - the UK's largest fair entirely devoted to contemporary prints - alongside the work of artists from across the globe.

The Young London Print Prize is run by Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair, with support from Peabody, Anthesis, LandSec, Boodle Hatfield and the Foundation for Future London. For more information, please visit Woolwich Contemporary Print Fair.

The Young London Print Prize aims to inspire and showcase the work of young artists. It seeks to bridge the gap between compulsory education and the contemporary art world by directly involving young printmakers within it. All the work in this programme is created and judged by young people themselves.
